Apples!

Apple Investigation!

Does it sink or float?
We made predictions about whether the apples would sink or float! The kids each got to drop an apple in the water to see if their predictions were correct. We decided that no matter what size the apples were they will ALL float!

Stamp It!
The kids explored the inside of the apple and used some of their senses to talk about how it including sight and touch. Then they used the apples to make stamp art!

How Many Apples Tall Am I?

We used apples to measure how tall we are!

Apple Tasting!
And finally we tasted the apples! The kids tried red, yellow, and green apples and we graphed the apples that we liked the best!

Popcorn Investigation!

Popcorn Investigation!

Discovering the Five Senses!

This afternoon the Kindergarten team had a BLAST learning about our Five Sense with popcorn! We practiced our math skills by counting popcorn kernels and putting them into groups of 10's and 5's. We read a fun story to learn about where popcorn came from. We made observations as we watched the kernels turn into popcorn. After rotating through those activities we described the popcorn using each of our Five Senses (touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound). And then of course we snacked on some popcorn!

Author's Chair with Mrs. Robin Vaughn

Mrs. Vaughn's Class

An important part of our writing within the DAILY FIVE and writing block is being able to share our work.  Here are a couple of students reading the books they created in the "Author's Chair".  It is a great way to increase self-confidence, language skills, excitement and writing skills.

Read to Self!

Read to Self is a part of the Daily 5 reading and writing system that the Kindergarten team uses every day in the classroom. Miss Hatcher's class has been working really hard at practicing how to be good readers in the classroom. Check out the kiddos in action!

Writing!

Writing is another part of the Daily 5 that the kids practice everyday in the classroom. At this stage in the year a lot of the writing we do is very basic. For example, we can use pictures to tell a story and we encourage the kids to add the beginning and ending sounds to the pictures they drew. We have also been adding simple sentences to our writing using our sight words, such as "I can jump." or "I like kittens." They are SO proud of their writing and love sharing it :)
